Methodology

Where the figures come from, how often they are updated, and what we do not do with them.

The sources

  • The National Institute of Statistics, Tempo Online database — most of the series.
  • Eurostat — only the comparisons between Romania and the European Union, taken from the same dataset for both sides.
  • The Official Gazette — the gross minimum wage, which is a legal threshold, not a measurement.

Updating

The data are reloaded automatically several times a day. Before each download the site first asks whether the source has published something new or republished something old; only then does it download. The National Institute of Statistics publishes monthly, not daily, and a month already published may later be revised — which is why the whole series is read again each time, not only its last value.

The date a figure last changed is visible on the indicator's page.

What we do not do

We invent no figures and fill no gaps. If the source has not published a period, that period is missing from the chart too: the line breaks, it is not drawn straight across.

We never show a provisional figure as final. The publisher marks every value — final, semi-final, revised or provisional — and that marking is carried over and written beside the figure.

We do not splice series that measure different things. When a source changes its classification, the two stretches stay two separate series, with the break stated in words.

What we compute ourselves

The average, the minimum and the maximum of a year, on the year pages, and the total where a total makes sense. Under each one the page says how many published periods it is made from. Any other computation — turning an index into the rate it stands for, for instance — is declared on the page where it appears.

Any figure can be checked against its source: the public data interface (API) returns, for every value, the code of the source it was read from and its revision marking.

What this site is not

statistici.ro is not a public institution, is not part of the official statistical system and does not represent the National Institute of Statistics, Eurostat or any other authority. It is an independent site that reuses data they published, with the source indicated.

For any official use, the source is what counts. The data reproduced here may be revised by the institution that published them, and its version is the only one that constitutes proof.
